Which FAANG is best to work for? We Figured It Out

Landing a job at a FAANG company is a dream come true for most silicon valley professionals.

Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Netflix, and Google are considered the top tier companies by many engineers on Blind. Those who aren’t employed at one of these elite companies, often try to get into one.

Although all five companies are prestigious, is one superior to the other? With the Blind Hub data analysis tool, Blind has been releasing monthly rankings, focusing on different aspects that attract and retain employees. Thus far, Blind has ranked companies based on eNPS (the most recommended companies to work for), companies with the best leadership teams, and companies with the most equal opportunities.

From the results of these company rankings, we’ve compared FAANG companies to see who did best.

  • Netflix came on top, outperforming others on ALL of Blind’s rankings.
    • 67% of Netflix employees said they would recommend their company as a great place to work for.
    • 65% of them said they have confidence in their leaders at Netflix, and 74% are motivated by their leaders’ vision.
    • Even among 50+ companies we’ve ranked this year, Netflix has managed to secure a spot in the Top 5 companies for all three rankings.

Ranking #1: The Most Recommended Companies To Work For

In the first ranking, all FAANG companies, except for Amazon, earned a place in the 15 most recommended companies to work for. Back in Mid-March, we learned that 57% of surveyed professionals feared being laid off. However, only  36.6% of Facebook professionals shared that fear. This shows that the increased feeling of job security improved favorability for the company.

Additionally, in April, when 23% of companies have had COVID-19 related layoffs, only 11% of Apple professionals had seen COVID-19 related layoffs.

Ranking #2: The 15 Companies With The Best Leadership Teams

Both Netflix and Facebook employee’s would not only recommend their companies as great places to work, but also believe in their leadership teams. Having a leadership team that communicates a vision that motivates professionals during this time is critical.  With the coronavirus crisis upending businesses, pushing more people to work remotely as others face layoffs, employees value leaders who are transparent and lead with vision. Netflix and Facebook employees feel that their leaders do just that. On the other hand, compared to their usually- great performance on the other rankings, Google fell behind on employee’s confidence level in their leadership.

In July, we learned that  ¼ of professionals contact their boss often/ stay on your laptop so they appear to be working hard remotely. However, only 20% of Apple professionals contact their boss often/ stay on your laptop so they appear to be working hard remotely, and 12% of Google professionals do.

Ranking #3: 2020’s Companies With The most Equal Opportunities to Succeed

2020 has brought to light the intersectional conversations regarding diversity and inclusion. More than ever, employees are holding their employers as accountable as the government to take a stance. Many organizations aim to create inclusive work environments that provide all employees with a sense that they belong and will be given an equal opportunity to succeed, and Netflix and Facebook appear to be successful at doing that.

These rankings on Blind are based on unbiased responses and insights from verified employees. Netflix and Facebook seem to be the two best FAANG companies to work for, while Amazon seems to be the bottom of the bunch.

Back in June, we asked our users if their personal values/ moral code represented the upper management / C- level of your organization? More than half, 58% of Amazon professionals say their personal values are NOT represented in the upper management.

In July, we learned that 28% of both Amazon and Microsoft professionals feel like their boss values them based on how many hours they work. This was contrasted with only 14% of Google professionals feeling that way.

In July, we learned that 64% of Microsoft parents have had accommodations for the new needs for homeschooling and summer needs. This was also starkly contrasted by only 24% of Amazon working parents.
